In my time in Ukraine I have proposed a lot of things to women in the eight years I have been dating here. I have proposed to marry two times. I have witnessed a few not so glamorous proposals in Ukraine and some very emotional ones. The first one that comes to mind is when I was in Lviv, a city in the western part of the country. I was coming home from the gym but I wanted to get some cardio in. When I came to the first steps of High Castle there was an odd young man walking in front of me. He had something in his jacket, he would walk up a few steps then back down.

I was a little nervous about what he was going to do, so I stayed back a bit from him. What usually take 15 to 20 minutes to walk up took me almost 45 minutes. When we were about to the top he came running down towards me. I noticed in his jacket there were some flowers. Now I was starting to understand what was going on, I walked as fast as I could to the top. When I arrived there were two men and a young woman on top. The young man came up so fast got on his knee in front of the girl. He asked her if she would marry him, a long pause occurred. Finally, she said yes they hugged and kiss everything was good. Very romantic some would think.

I was with a client, Mark that met a woman with my help, they knew one another for 6 days. He came to me this morning to ask me what do I think about him asking Evgenia to marry him?

Being a little apprehensive I ask are you sure this is what you both want? I knew this man he was not a guy that did something without thinking about it. I said let’s go to lunch the three of us so I can feel out how she is thinking about you. I knew they would make a good couple, I saw how they would be with each other very loving. Mark treated her with much respect, I could see the feelings he had for her were real. But was this too soon? I have heard of other men proposing to a Ukrainian woman only to be turned down because it was too soon.

As we ate lunch I asked Evgenia what her plans were in life? She said I have no plans I only hope to go where my heart is happy.

She said my kid is grown I do not see him much he has his life. I only wish to be happy now maybe with Mark! He had the biggest smile at that moment. He asked me to come to talk with him in private. We walked out into the park that was just in front of the cafe. He asked me what I thought what do I think his chances are with her. I told him she does like you I can see this. Is she ready to be with a man she met a few days ago? As we were talking it over I noticed Evgenia walking over to us. Mark said I am going to ask her now!

Now Mark is an older man not in the best shape anymore. He was so nervous to do everything right for this great moment.

She stopped in front of us asked what is taking you two so long to talk. Mark took a step forward to get on one knee. As he did this his legs gave way and he fell right on his face. Evgenia did not know exactly what was going on until she saw the ring in Mark’s hand. She made a happy sound, said, Mark, my babe is that for me? As he was still laying in the grass, now on his back.

He said Evgenia will you marry me? She said (konechno) which means, of course, I will.

He was so happy and asked if she would help him up to his feet. He then was so embarrassed that he fell in front of her at this romantic moment. She saw his embarrassment said, my love, it is OK that you could not get up. As long as the other part of you can get up we will be fine. They both laughed hug then thank me for their happiness.

 In what I have seen and done when it comes to asking a Ukrainian woman to marry you it does not need to be an elaborate proposal that took you weeks to write.

There is no right time no wrong time in my experience with these women sooner is better. Also, they do not want a long engagement period. They feel if you want to marry me then marry me there is no reason to wait.Ok now do not get me wrong I am not saying that you should come to Ukraine with a ring and expect a woman to marry you in a week. Most of the time it will not happen, but it does happen. It happened with me, I was with a girl for 10 days when we started talking about getting married. Soon we were engaged.

I think some of the older women or single moms are more willing to change their lives for the better.

Marry a foreign man if they love him, I have seen a few times where it happens very fast and most of the couples are still together. Here is another reason why I do what I do, no prearranged meeting online.  If you meet online both will have some preconceived ideas of what will happen in the future. They see a pretty face in a photo then there imagination takes over. They write emails chat on skype and think they are getting to know one another. When really all they are learning about each other is their life stories.

Your personality does not come through online. When you randomly see a woman meet her date her, in a few hours you know if you like her or not.

She knows if she could be with a man like you or not. What happens if you write a woman or a few women online? Meet them if you are lucky they are real. Then everything you thought she was is not who she is at all! Time and money wasted on an unsure way of meeting someone.
